All Aboard the Western Flyer!

Climb aboard the legendary Western Flyer—where science, history, and creativity set sail together! Once home to John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts during their famous Sea of Cortez expedition, this beautifully restored vessel is now a floating classroom for discovery.

Tour the galley, berths, and wheelhouse as you imagine life on the 1940 voyage, spotting original features and modern upgrades that make the Flyer a working research ship once again. Then dive into marine exploration: collect and study plankton under video microscopes in the onboard lab, learn to pilot an ROV, and discover how scientists explore the ocean’s hidden depths.

Wrap up your adventure with nature journaling and science-inspired art—capturing your observations and creativity in a unique way. Though the ship stays docked, your imagination will voyage far beyond the harbor on this unforgettable day of ocean adventure!

Cost $15 includes special patch
